Dad’s Hat

My dad is one man I have seen with and in one hat for as long as I can remember. I looked at the old beige cowboy the last time I was home and felt the weight of age on him. He leaned in my palms to give one last bow, majestic, a turn of pride and a calmness that he has had for the last 20 years being worn head help up high.

This hat has been part of our family conversations, my dad’s best companion on the road. All our heads in the family know it’s warmth. It had a way of embracing our little heads, bald and braided as we grew older without making us feel less beautiful or handsome.

Dad looks at us, looks at it and says, that guy has been of good service! I never doubted his love.

My head never got to perfectly fit in my dad’s hat but with time, I have learnt to wear hats just to look like my dad.
